The Rotary Club of Jefferson will celebrate 100 years of service and positive impact in the county-wide community and the world with a centennial observance program Sunday, May 15. The event will take place in the Rotary Room at the Jefferson Community Golf Course from 5 until 7 pm.
To highlight the far-reaching impact of Rotary’s work in the community, the event will feature speakers who will highlight the ways in which Rotary has contributed to their organizations. Speakers will include Chris Deal, Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar; Cherie Cerveny, director of the Greene County Early Learning Center; Mike Palmer, Jefferson city Administrator; Jim North, Webb House Youth Center founder with high school junior Gabe Fincel; and Teresa Green, long time Greene County High School Interact sponsor.
Recently, in honor of its upcoming centennial, the Rotary Club donated $50,000 of its annual charity auction proceeds toward the construction of a dog park adjacent the new Jefferson animal shelter.
Rotarians also spent time April 30 planting nine new trees at the Greene County Elementary playground to enhance the Rotary outdoor classroom there. The outdoor classroom was originally built in observance of Rotary’s 75th anniversary. Over the next several months Rotarians will plant a pollinator garden and provide signage to the newly planted trees.
